Viewing Notes

Incredible. Was stoked when I heard that MBT had both Police Story films on their schedule coinciding with the upcoming Criterion release. These are the 4K restorations done for the release. Having only seen a handful of Jackie Chan films on the big screen I wasn’t gonna pass this up and was very please that MBT was actually doing a run rather than a couple of late night/midnight screenings.

Went for the first screening of each since it was an afternoon start and was happy that the double feature pricing was $12 for both films! Fucking awesome.

Honestly seeing this projected and the restoration the did it was like seeing a whole new movie. Of course I know the action beats very well but damn if they aren’t just beautiful in this format. Easily the best I’ve ever seen either of these.

Of course that intro sequence is incredible. The shopping mall finale is just mind-blowing. Brigitte Lin and Maggie Cheung deserve so much credit for being good sports in this movie bc people get injured.

It’s really a wonderful thing that these films are getting this treatment.
