What happens when a glamorous express, with high government officials, wealthy merchants, concubines and a gang of brigands on board, speeds towards the small town of Hanshui, where escaping bank robbers, corrupt officials, and gamblers await? Well, let’s just say the Titanic had a smoother maiden voyage.

Random discovery on my library network. This cast is sick.
Whoa this movie is nuts. It’s like The Who’s who of Golden Harvest at that time. Like a HK Cannonball Run but a period train heist movie instead. The story is silly (it is an “action comedy”) but the fights are outstanding even brief as they are (there’s just so many fighters in this).
Sammo vs Yuen Biao? Yep
Sammo vs Cynthia Rothrock? Yep
Yasuaki Kurata vs Richard Norton? Hell yes.
Yuen Biao vs Dick Wei? Damn straight.
Plus both Jimmy Wang Yu *and* Jimmy Wang Lung-Wei
Also a bevy of beauties including Rosamund Kwan. Bolo Yeung is also present but I missed him somehow. Basically Sammo threw a party, invited everyone and made a movie for 7 months.
I watched the Cynthia Rothrock interview which was really great. This was her second movie and she was so green. (I honestly didn’t realize that YES, MADAM was her first) She talks about her origin and how she got into making HK films and her time in HK and on the set. Also working w/Sammo and Yuen Biao and Richard Horton. It 23min long and I could’ve watched another hour talking about her history and what the differences in HK vs America for making action films. There’s a Sammo interview I’ll watch in a bit. I’m tempted to listen to the Bey Logan commentary as well.
