Overview

Follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species, thought to be mere myths, rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Viewing Notes

I know I said I wasn’t going to do this but… after reading a few reviews and listening to several podcasts about this film (all with varying positive and very negative takes), I was inspired to view it again. Also after hearing that crummy audio at the Muvico Dolby theater I wanted to see it again in a different theater to compare. Yep, that Dolby was fucked up; it sounded great in the IMAX theater at Showplace Niles.

Not now but when I get a moment I will dissect my thoughts (good & bad) on this log.

1. My first viewing was a blast. It was all new and I had no idea where it was going. Mothra is awesome (I cried during most of her key scenes). Second viewing revealed all the issues w/the story/plotting + characters. Annoying things. Third viewing (this one) brought me back to just enjoying seeing big ass monsters battle it out and laughing at the human characters (or major eyerolls during Whitford’s one-liners. But the film went from an 8/10 to a 7/10 in this span.
