DKUTV is doing a 17hr marathon to celebrate Mie Hama’s 76th birthday (11/20) showing all films that feature her. This started at 6am CST and this anthology was the third film I watched this morning.
Totally get why this multi-country joint was chosen; it leads with the Tokyo segment featuring Mie as a bar hostess turn hustler. Possibly the best role I’ve seen her do? And she looks fabulous. Her segment alone lifts this at least a star and a half. That is to say the rest of the segments aren’t nearly as interesting or good.
This was the French dvd shown which had a disclaimer that Roman Polanski’s segment was removed at his request. Now I’m very curious!
This anthology is maybe a 5 total but extra star for Mie who is excellent in her role.
