Overview

OMG I love this! I know we watched this at a movie night years ago and I pretty sure I own this but it’s not listed in my organizer therefore I have no idea where it is if I do have it on disc.
For that reason I decided to the catch the DKUTV broadcast tonight. Wow, this movie is so much better than I remembered (granted it’s been 14 years since I’ve seen it). Also really cool to watch this after viewing the first two episodes of the original series, which is what this “remake” is based on. It has similar beats related to the Kamen Rider origin and includes those first Shocker villains: Bat-man, Spiderman, and Snakeman plus bonus Snakegirl (here I think they’re just Bat, Spider, and Snake or Venom).
The love triangle is amusing that it creates the rivalry between KR1 and KR2. They hate each other but have to work together to defeat Shocker. Was also shocked, pardon the pun, to see Hideyo Amamoto!! Later learned it was archive footage to put him in the film with a another voice actor doing the dialogue.
Probably the only negative is the Shocker soldiers look like hot garbage. Gas masks and black tights? Dumb. Really bad given the great suits for the big bads.
If I do own this I need to find that dvd. But I really want this on Blu-ray!
