Viewing Notes
Fifth movie in the “Choose Your Own Movie Marathon” event and one I’ve been wanting to view for a long time. Should note that I also own the Japanese VHS and a .mkv file of this movie so I could’ve seen it before now but alas. So I was happy to see that it was selected so I could finally check it out (it has never gotten a proper release here and probably never will bc it’s a Toho production).
This movie lives up to the hype with a slow intro to establish the premise that builds into some batshit craziness. Some wonderful practical FX, too. Neat to see two prominent leads here that worked together only a few years prior as leads in TAMPOPO. Great to finally see this movie yet sad we won’t get a deserved release of this film. Arrow would be the perfect home for this and would do an outstanding package.
