Viewing Notes

Dinner & a movie: viewed this last year as part of Kaiju-ConLine event but after reading the description I wanted to watch it again bc it’s a good one. This is the post-apocalyptic story where the group of young women find the Earth Defense Force shed and assumes their identity even tho they’re just mechanics, a nurse and whatever. They are portrayed by RL idols AKB48. So they cruise around in mechs.

The three Ultraman in this have to combine to beat a superior Zetton alien. They form the Ultraman Saga, which is super badass. This is really fun esp bc of the AKB48 members getting to play in the UltraVerse. Sayaka Akimoto is their “chief” and she’s excellent. They could’ve really made a statement w/this movie and had Anna (Akimoto) be the missing piece for the Ultraman Saga and had her become the next Ultrawoman. Blown opportunity to introduce a female Ultra for a change.

Impressed w/the opening shots of desolate Tokyo (Shinkuku and Shibuya in particular). Curious how they did these as there is never a time esp during the day when these areas are completely devoid of ppl. They don’t look like models so maybe digitally erased?
