Viewing Notes

Simon Yam never known for refusing a paycheck for even the tiniest of bit roles!

Soft 7 for me. The story is retread full of 90s era tropes but this has an action centerpiece that is awesome. Plus Nicolas Tse as the once good cop gone villain and Donnie Yen as the pure can do no wrong cop on his tail. This is essentially Benny Chan’s HEAT. So for that I can respect and appreciate it as his unfortunate final film before his untimely passing last year.

Also giving this a positive score for all the incredible FX used to simulate the majority of this movie. I honestly thought much of this was filmed on location in the streets of HK. Well, it was filmed in HK but on handmade sets. So impressed by what they did here.

Worth noting that Nicolas Tse looks like he hasn’t aged a day in that interview in bonus features. Like holy shit he found the Lazarus Pit. Love that he references his early work with Benny Chan in GEN X COPS.
