Viewing Notes

Perfect after work movie during a dreary cloudy post-rain day. Given this was likely filmed in the Pacific Northwest, Vancouver I’m sure, the movie mood matched. I dig this little flick and remembered more of it than I expected, a feat these days. Anna Taylor-Joy is spot on as the androgynous lab created person. She has that kind of look that makes it work. Michelle Yeoh appears in a photo and I’m all like the Rick Dalton pointing at the tv meme. Totally blanked that she was in this movie. Great cast overall. Fun thriller that makes it worth the revisit if you’ve seen it once.

Looked up in IMDb and the budget was 8 million, which is incredible given the talent involved and production design. Sadly this was a bomb on release and didn’t even recoup that budget (before marketing). That’s probably why the director carried on with short films and hasn’t made another feature since. That’s unfortunate bc I do like the style on display here. The fights / action are heavily editing but at least it looks convincing to see the two leads going at each other.

Also interesting that the house was in Ireland but all the big wide exterior shots were in British Columbia as I guessed.
