Viewing Notes

Sundays are the best time to take in an epic length tentpole blockbuster. After viewing Curse of the Black Pearl last week I definitely had the itch to just watch them all. Of course, doing a 2.5hr movie on a weeknight can be challenging. So Sunday is ideal. And it’s that kind of adventure-y flick that reminds me of being a kid and watching Treasure Island and Mysterious Island during the afternoon after church.

As noted in my POTC: COTBP revisit, I have definitely come around to appreciating these movies for the spectacle they are. Amazing setpieces and incredible FX that hold up extremely well. Solid action and comedy beats plus this fully committed cast. The story here is a tad convoluted as I lost sight of why and whats of it all but still enjoyed the ride and beautiful photography and amazing FX work. Davy Jones alone should have won all the awards. A fantastic character rendering.

It’s so wild that they basically developed this movie to be the Empire Strikes Back of the trilogy with a somber cliffhanger and return of Barbossa, which was a great movie moment but I had forgotten this was only the second movie so it wasn’t even that long!  So crazy.
