Perhaps a little more entertaining and fun than I gave it credit for when I first saw this in theater. Haven’t revisited since bc I thought it was awful. It’s not but it’s not v good either. Pushing that fucking silly accent on Cate Blanchett was a mistake. Just make her a double agent for the British but really working for the Russians. Problem solved. Seriously every time she says a line it takes me out of the story.
Another big problem is that everything looks fake. It’s so obvious that nothing was shot on location and it suffers for it. At least our primary actors get wet! It’s crazy how cool Raiders looks in hindsight simply bc they used real locations.
The story is goofy but ain’t bad. I like Mutt and I love Marian. Ray Winstone is fun and old John Hurt was still spry. Plenty was decent enough that the rest just sinks it. Most of the time I wondered if Spielberg really directed it and if so how did this look so freaking terrible. It pales compared to WOTW or Minority Report, which both came before. So this is real head scratcher.
