Overview

Ford Brody, a Navy bomb expert, has just reunited with his family in San Francisco when he is forced to go to Japan to help his estranged father, Joe. Soon, both men are swept up in an escalating crisis when an ancient alpha predator arises from the sea to combat malevolent adversaries that threaten the survival of humanity. The creatures leave colossal destruction in their wake, as they make their way toward their final battleground: San Francisco.

Happy Godzilla Day!

Good reason to crack open my 4K UHD. This is the best this movie has looked. Saw this in theaters 3x and this UHD is still better. Just amazing visuals and details I couldn’t see before. The audio, from what I could tell, is also way better. Some terrific sound design around the MUTOs. All of that enhanced the experience and made me appreciate this movie even more… and sadly made me feel less satisfied with its sequel. I really want to watch KOTM now but it’s too late for that kind of movie (too loud, too much bass).

This movie hits a lot harder now, too. Bryan Cranston is so fucking good in this and it still angers me that they couldn’t get a better wig for him. He deserved better. Will never not be weird that ATJ and EO are husband / wife here and siblings in the MCU. I really wish ATJ had returned for KOTM bc he’s great.

Given what’s happened to SF IRL it’s probably a good thing it was mostly destroyed in this movie. It needs a rebuild. It’s never mentioned but the death toll had to be significant esp. in Hawaii w/that tidal wave. Continues to bug me that the radiation factor is discussed the entire movie and yet never mentioned at the end when the entire city of SF is exposed. Like just conveniently let that go.

Was reminded of when this came out and Steve Barton made a shitty comment about it bc he was disappointed there wasn’t more Godzilla action. I think I stopped following him after that.
