Lisa Frankenstein and Zone of Interest still on my mind… so let’s mash ‘em up!
Like a story right out of Weird War Tales! Lots of issues with this specifically making this a found footage film then having the actors speak English… completely loses the illusion of the premise. Should’ve done it straight like The Bunker or Overlord. Or had less dialogue yet everyone speaking Russian and German.
That said, the entire “factory” setpiece is dynamite and so perfectly rendered plus I love all the wild monster soldiers so much. I want figures of all of them! Before his family life began my brother’s Halloween costume resembled the Mosquito Man (Nazi on stilts). Not that it’s super original but it’s almost like they saw so pics of my brother back when he was winning costume contests regularly in Albuquerque. So wild to see in this movie.
Anyways, I will overlook my hang ups bc I love the creature design so much. Richard Raaphorst has worked on a variety of neat films since but hasn’t directed anything since and that makes me sad. Dude definitely has a vision.
