Viewing Notes

Was seated in IMAX for part two of my double feature with a sparse crowd that looks like they just left a trump rally. Odd to see ppl like this on a Thursday opening day. Anyways, it looks like the entire film is in the IMAX ratio? Didn’t recall any aspect ratio changes but I often miss them when they happen. Looks amazing in Laser IMAX.

Lots to chew on. The filmcraft and acting is superb, like 8 or 9. Great use of sound and the Dolby surround. So fucking loud at times (clearly using the audio to make a point). The story? Hmm all of this for not really saying anything is a bold choice but one that left me disappointed.

Dunst is excellent. I like Spaeny more in this than her turn as Priscilla. Was so happy when Sonoya Mizuno appeared. Henderson is a scene stealer and it’s a joy to still see him acting.

Wish there was a way to go back in time to the SXSW reactions. Someone, a critic I follow, said this is a divisive film. I dunno about that other than I’m on the fence.

A good thread about the film by a journalist in Ukraine: https://twitter.com/daria_badior/status/1777993015283302728
