Give a lot of props to Oxide & Co for taking a retread premise and going really hard with it. This is Andy Lau’s TAKEN* on a plane… or whatever else Liam Neeson movie since this is what he’s doing. Granted HK was doing the Neeson thing long before TAKEN but now that’s it’s returned to China it feels like they’re aping Hollywood recently, playing it safe.
This is fun bc it feels like that dangerous HK film of yore but in a glossy wrapper. I’m not a fan of plane thrillers but this one manages to escalate in a way that kept me riveted. Mad respect to Lau (and his personal trainer) for still kicking ass and being in total action hero mode.
It was a 99 cent rental on Apple TV and this Chinese film account I follow kept promoting it leading up to Lau’s new movie A Gilded Game released this past weekend. Figured it was worth a buck to watch it and yep! If this gets a release here from Well Go** I would buy it and bring it to movie night. This is like the opposite of Andy Lau’s SWITCH. Hahaha
Btw that TMDb description reads like it was translated from a Chinese website. lol
* just joking; we all know it’s DIE HARD on a plane, which it totally is, like exactly that.
** Bayview released it domestically, which stinks bc their prices are always very high ($25+) for BD titles

*** I ordered the Chinese Blu-ray from Turkey for 12$ so we’ll see if it has subtitles and looks good
(not really Turkey but I think HK/China sellers are trying to find ways to get around the tariff issue. at the moment they have to mark up the shipping to extreme levels ~$25USD per disc)
