Found this again when I was looking at something else on ML. Both of these actors appeared in ONE MISSED CALL 3 in the same year (2006) as this. The YT on my previous log was no longer good but someone reupped it.

I believe the idea is to read more into this but given this is two young women in Japan, you can also take it face value; two friends spending time together before separating. It’s just how it is, there is no extended relationship beyond that. There’s a making of / BTS on YT but no subs so I’m not sure what the director is saying but I would guess that it’s the same sentiment.

Noticed both actors retired around the same time. That’s unfortunate as both are talented. Crazy culture over there.
