In the midst of peace negotiations with the Klingons, Captain Kirk and Doctor McCoy find themselves accused of murder with Spock and the rest of the Enterprise crew left to figure out the real culprits before they strike again. While Star Trek V would have been a terrible send-off for the original series crew, this ends up being pretty close to perfect. It’s about a hot button topic of the day, which was the fall of the Soviet Union, racism, and global economics all within a sci-fi murder mystery. While nowhere near as personal as Star Trek IV was, each of the cast is given something important to do. The effects are back up to looking amazing, and they brought in someone to work on the score who knew what the film needed musically as well as a return from the director of Star Trek II.
