This top ten box office hit reunites the star duo from Come Drink With Me in another classic action adventure. Cheng Pei-pei radiates her trademark charm while wielding the deadly title weapon, which is implicated in multiple murders and a major heist. Whether single-handedly fighting sixteen bandits or avenging her father’s brutal death, she demonstrates why she was Hong Kong’s number one swordswoman and no slouch with the whip either!

Viewing Notes

The Shadow Whip is very much old school kung fu with some fun wire work and great battle scenes. The more of these Hong Kong martial arts films I watch, the more influence I see on Tarantino’s Kill Bill. In particular there are some pretty massive battle scenes in The Shadow Whip that involve crazy odds of two against 50, 60 or more that obviously influenced the Crazy 88s fight scene in Kill Bill.

Pei-Pei Chang is mesmerizing to watch in the action scenes, both because she’s beautiful and deadly with a whip. There are some fun, inventively bloody killings involving the whip that add to the uniqueness of this film. It’s also set in what I’m guessing is Northern China with some great location shooting against snowy mountains and hillsides.

Just added to my queue and bumped. Sounds amazing. And I love Cheng.
