Viewing Notes

Finally picked up the Blu from Wally World for cheap so I could rewatch. It’s been a long time. I still recall seeing this at the Biograph theater in Chicago when it first came out and the shocked laughter at the backseat gun scene.

I still contend that the parts are greater than the sum; there are lots of classic scenes but the entire film doesn’t gel as well as it perhaps should. You can see Tarantino starting to come together as a filmmaker though.

I still think Kill Bill Vol. 1 is his best. I think people often cite Pulp Fiction because there are so many great lines in it. But taken as a whole, not his best in my opinion.

Oddly I share the same feelings toward this film. I saw it very late maybe 10 years or so ago (actually had it logged here but recently removed it but that’s another story). I have the Blu and plan to revisit one of these days b/c I’m often bewildered when people still consider it QT’s best film.
