Tom Selznick, the most talented pianist of his generation, stopped performing in public because of his stage fright. Years after a catastrophic performance, he reappears in public in a long awaited concert in Chicago. Just moments after starting his performance in the packed theater, in front of an expectant audience, Tom finds a threatening message written on the score: ‘Play one wrong note and you die’. The ending was a little flimsy but the build up to that point was actually pretty good, with some interesting camera work. There were some particularly nicely framed shots near the beginning as well. Overall, better than I was expecting given what I’d heard about it. It probably would have placed in the middle of the pack of my screenings at Fantastic Fest if I’d seen it there.

I think I have it in the middle of my FF2013 films. It’s a fun thriller but also a tad silly at times. Love all the exterior shots around Chicago.

Yeah, if you can get over the initial silliness of the plot, it plays out fairly well. Good to see Alex Winter on screen again too.
