Not sure if “A lot less explody stuff than I expected” is an endorsement or not. Your 6.5 rating is more favorable than I expected.

That’s probably being generous, but there are bits and pieces to like. Tucci and Grammer both elevate the material, and Goodman does some great voice work. His autobot is pretty fun to listen to the dialog for.

There’s also a pretty decent, physical action scene between Wahlberg and another character that was the highlight of the action for me. All the CGI stuff is just ho-hum boring by this point. Wahlberg’s character’s daughter is another joke of a female role, mostly objectified and helpless. Li Bingbing probably has the most capable female role in the film and she’s pretty limited.

The female geologist is another horribly underutilized role. They should have either completely cut all that stuff out or expanded her role and cut other crap.

There’s no way this movies needs to be as long as it is. Still, all that said, it’s definitely better than the last two Transformers films, so there’s that.
