Kham is the last in long line of guards who once watched over the King of Thailand’s war elephants. Traditionally, only the perfect elephants could successfully help defend the throne, after his harrowing quest to retrieve the elephants, Kham returns to his village to live in peace. But for someone as good in martial arts as him, peace is but a wishful thought.

It pains me to rate a Tony Jaa movie so low but not as much as it pained me to watch this. There’s some great fight sequences here and there but they’re overshadowed by awful CG FX and gimmicky 3D. To make matters worse, RZA is cast as the psycho bad guy. He’s the perfect example of a fan of something who has access to what he loves and uses that access to make it worse for everyone.
I’m kind of glad this is the end of Tony Jaa working in the Thai film industry and instead broadening his reach to more international audiences. I hope he manages to emulate the success of Ong Bak but at the international level.

This is in 3D on NWI? (Didn’t realize it was on available on NWI now). I think Jaa is teaming up w/Michael Jai White for his next film. Check out MJW’s most recent FALCON RISING on NWI. Caught it in theater. Not bad.

It’s not in 3D but you can see the obvious 3D effects. Also the subtitling is close captioned and awkwardly large which also didn’t help.
I just watched Falcon Rising over the weekend! Not bad, but it felt like a pilot for a series more than a movie. Very toned down. Not terrible though.
Jaa and White together sounds like a great mix!

Ah that makes sense. I’ll give Protector 2 a spin probably in the next week or so.
