Viewing Notes

Also known as LIGHTNING FISTS OF SHAOLIN, This is late era Shaw Brothers and it shows. Everything is constrained to a very small set and there are some odd edits that mess with the continuity a bit. The scene with the boat is really odd and out of place, and felt like there was more than was shown.

The rooftop fight scene at the beginning and the final battle are the best of the martial arts choreography, the rest is just kind of average. Directed by Chia Tang who spent most of his career as a stunt coordinator, this was his third (and final) directing effort.

Was wondering how I had not seen this (given the number of Shaw films I’ve watched) then I checked my collection. I own it! Explains everything.

Ha, figures! I’m always surprised when I come across one I haven’t seen (even though there are still many).
