Viewing Notes

Cats woke me up early so I decided to get a morning film in. This is easily one of the best of Chan’s early period films of the ‘70s! He handles the action directing and fight choreography, which are both excellent.

This starts out with a skills demonstration sequence against a studio drop red background while the opening credits roll. Not sure how many martial arts films employed this before this film came out but we’ve certainly seen plenty of that by now. Still, it’s a great demonstration of Chan’s character’s abilities.

From there it moves directly into a great opening sequence that introduces the eight martial arts masters who are at the center of the story.

There’s a ton of action in this but the best is reserved for the final battle once again, where Chan utilizes a very fun to watch Snake and Crane hybrid style.

I really dug this movie. This would be a great movie night film.
