This movie is FUCKING INSANE! There are some crazy ass stunts that had to be dangerous as hell. Unfortunately there were also some cruel horse stunts that had me cringing, so be warned.
I honestly cannot believe this movie exists and that it came out in 1989. While Chiba is definitely one of the stars, he actually plays the main henchman to the primary bad guy and as such, doesn’t get nearly as much screen time as the group of traveling ronin good guys. There are so many great fight scenes, including in the first seconds of the film, right down to the final battle, that are amazingly, unexpectedly violent and inventive.
If Jay hasn’t watched this then this is a movie night shoe-in of the highest order!

This movie feels like it should have been playing on permanent rotation on cable in the U.S. I just feels like a great adventure movie but completely nuts on top of that and I would have loved it as a kid just as much as I do now, if not more!
