Overview

As armies mass for a final battle that will decide the fate of the world—and powerful, ancient forces of Light and Dark compete to determine the outcome—one member of the Fellowship of the Ring is revealed as the noble heir to the throne of the Kings of Men. Yet, the sole hope for triumph over evil lies with a brave hobbit, Frodo, who, accompanied by his loyal friend Sam and the hideous, wretched Gollum, ventures deep into the very dark heart of Mordor on his seemingly impossible quest to destroy the Ring of Power.

Viewing Notes

It’s been a while since I watched all three films more or less back-to-back and I have to say that my preferences have changed a bit. I’d rank them as Fellowship first, Return second and Two Towers third. All three are integral to the story of course but the first has such a satisfying arc whereas Two Towers feels more like “here’s a bunch of stuff we need to sort out”. Return starts out with the Smeagol back story which is a bit weak, but I understand why they included it. The rest is pretty good. Thankfully this was the theatrical version which has a more concise epilogue. The extended version goes on forever as I recall.

Also, no visual glitches like there were on the Two Towers disc.
