Overview

As armies mass for a final battle that will decide the fate of the world—and powerful, ancient forces of Light and Dark compete to determine the outcome—one member of the Fellowship of the Ring is revealed as the noble heir to the throne of the Kings of Men. Yet, the sole hope for triumph over evil lies with a brave hobbit, Frodo, who, accompanied by his loyal friend Sam and the hideous, wretched Gollum, ventures deep into the very dark heart of Mordor on his seemingly impossible quest to destroy the Ring of Power.

Viewing Notes

Another big snow day dissolving any plans of doing anything but staying inside and off the roads so a good day to finish the LOTR trilogy we started at the beginning of the month. For 2/3 to three quarters of the film it’s the best of the trilogy. I forgot about the ride to the Black King and that final battle while all the drama is happening with Frodo and Gollum. Completely forgot it.

Probably bc from that point onward the movie isn’t good. Frodo not throwing the ring in immediately then Fighting with gollum then Sam rescuing him = bad. Frodo should’ve gone down with the ring. He was an asshole for most of the journey and treated Sam like shit. Then the numerous endings = bad.

But I’m going to not think about the end and focus on all the great filmmaking before that. Graded on that this is a solid nine. Also this Blu is the best looking of the three; if you told me this was the UHD I’d believe you. PQ is outstanding. Bad: the audio is so dynamic in shut down my receiver twice so had to go with tv audio for 3/4 of the movie which sucked. I need to look up why my receiver is doing this bc takes out the tv as well and has to be reset for the tv to resume.

Anyways this was fun to revisit all three movies. I think I’m ready to do the same for the Hobbit films.
