It’s refreshing to see a movie aimed at adults in this day and age. Great cast and the film has some of that ‘70s vibe to it. The Bakersfield setting is reminiscent of FAT CITY though it doesn’t share the inherent nihilism of Huston’s film.
My only nits are that while everything kind of wraps up by the end, it’s not entirely satisfactory; and Qually’s character isn’t actually a very good private investigator, though that seems to be a hallmark of many previous private eye films (in that things happen to the P.I.‘s rather than as a result of any particularly good sleuthing skills).
