Viewing Notes

Glad I saw this!

Good thing CineArt in Evanston had ideal showtimes for me to catch it after work. I like the approach taken for a theme done many times in previous movies. Here the mystery kept me engaged with characters I could root for. It also plays like a superhero origin story in some ways.

I knew Olivia Cooke looked familiar because I just saw her in The Quiet Ones. She’s mix between Rose Byrne and Christina Ricci.

Knowing the final outcome creates questions about events leading up to that seem to lessen the impact. Still a very good watch.

It’s an odd movie but really surprised to see no one talking much about this, since it’s original, indie sci-fi.

Alison Willmore did a dual review of this and Coherence, which I haven’t seen, at Buzzfeed. She wasn’t as crazy about this one as it goes into full sci-fi mode. That’s the aspect that I like the most in this movie along with the mystery of it all.

Interestingly I wasn’t going to see this b/c the WOM wasn’t good but I saw your tweet which inspired me to check it out. That’s why my initial note was “glad I saw this”. Not a great film but kept me engaged.

Yeah, not earth-shattering, but interesting and thought provoking, and they leave a lot of unsaid stuff on screen which is great. It definitely provoked some discussion afterwards with my kids. Any movie where they feel compelled to talk about it after: analyzing it, asking questions, or giving their in-depth opinions; is a win in my book.
