Viewing Notes

First film of G-Fest XXI. I am crazy in love with this movie. I guess I know how Goonies fans feel. There is just so much about this movie that I adore sometimes I don’t understand it. This was the first time I’ve seen it on the big screen since its original release when my dad took me. I still have a very strong memory of that (which could be a big factor in why I love this move so much).

Haven’t watched in its entirety in quite a few years, too many years. I did view a few necessary scenes when I wrote up my piece on bad movies we love for Rupert Pupkin Speaks. Been looking forward to this for some time and was amped when I saw it was scheduled for G-Fest. It’s such a big screen movie too.

Would not have picked this up until recent years but Jessica Lange is essentially doing Marilyn Monroe. It’s quite fascinating to watch. Her acting and character have always been slagged but realizing this puts her in a new light which I can appreciate more (although I never had a problem with her character or acting in this; I like how her character is shallow yet conflicted.).

I would probably go see this film anytime it was showing in a theater. Definitely made for the big screen (and I love it so much).

I would definitely jump at the chance to see this in a theater, even more so if it were in 35mm.

I’m a little surprised a 35mm rep screening hasn’t popped up in recent years either in a marathon or a midnight show. Wonder if being so critically panned keeps it off the radar. Next time I talk to Rusty I’m gonna ask him about adding it to one of his events (I spoke with him last Sunday and right now his future marathons are in question with the loss of The Patio).
