Viewing Notes

Heard the 3D IMAX experience was better so decided to go while the iron was still hot. And it’s not bad at $13 during the week. I don’t think my opinion of the film has changed; I still quite enjoy most of it even when it’s sloppy at times and a tad schmaltzy. The contrivances and plot devices that propel the film are annoying but easy to overlook with fun character moments.

Bautista’s Drax is my favorite character followed by Nebula. I was all Groot/Rocket after my first viewing but that show wears a little thin. Nebula brings the unbridled menace (more than Ronan whose petulance gets the better of his evil) and Drax is the heart. Also like Rooker more this time.

As for the 3D IMAX, the good is that the image looked much better and clearer. The audio was vastly improved however the mix was too aggressive esp. in the right front which was way too bright and gave me headache. I’d like to see this film in IMAX w/o the 3D. I didn’t notice any of the screen tricks utilizing the IMAX screen which may of been due to the LieMAX screen. I’d venture up to Lincolnshire for the true IMAX but I won’t endure that 3D again.

Since I still have a moviepass in my pocket for this film I’ll likely use it again for another 2D at Muvico and still where it shakes out. As of now I still think I prefer THE AVENGERS over this and Winter Soldier. So maybe this is third or fourth.

Ronan gives me a Marilyn Manson vibe. I did see Howard in the cage during The Collector scene!
