wasn’t planning on revisiting the GotG films prior to the new one but this is a comfort movie and it’s been longer than I thought since my last viewing.
James Gunn is a p great director / storyteller yet not perfect. However, one area where he excels is organic character development and exposition. It’s so effortless here and yet you learn about these characters and what’s going as part of the adventure. Also, it is super obvious here that this entire movie is a setup for the movies to come (the infinity stone) which wasn’t nearly as apparent at the time of release.
What’s cool to notice on this revisit is all the Rocket stuff knowing that’s where the third movie is heading (and getting Cosmo introduced too!). Also, Nebula is still so good as is Rooker as Yondu. So little needed to establish exactly who and what these characters are. Love it.
