Returning to their lord’s castle, samurai warriors Washizu and Miki are waylaid by a spirit who predicts their futures. When the first part of the spirit’s prophecy comes true, Washizu’s scheming wife, Asaji, presses him to speed up the rest of the spirit’s prophecy by murdering his lord and usurping his place. Director Akira Kurosawa’s resetting of William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” in feudal Japan is one of his most acclaimed films.

Was really excited to see another Kurosawa film on the big screen in 35mm. Even if it was one of my least favorite of his films. Not sure what it is about this movie that doesn’t grab me like his other works. Possibly because it’s an adaptation of Shakespeare? Mifune is tremendous of course. I love the Spider Web Forest. Appreciate the craft and on location sets with the garrison and the castle. Just not sure why this movie doesn’t click with me like Kurosawa’s other work.
