Unofficially kicking off my Bond project with this movie since I’ve seen Dr. No and From Russia With Love in recent years. The plan is to watch all the Bond films in my blu-ray set that I haven’t seen in the last couple of years, which is most of them. Many of these will also fall into my Childhood Movies Project (even though I haven’t listed them there yet).
Not sure when the last time was that I viewed Goldfinger but it’s been a long time. This one never grabbed me as a kid compared to the others. Still don’t find it all that great. Has a few excellent components but not assembled very well. Don’t get the mass appeal of this movie over the other Connery flicks. The villain Goldfinger isn’t very good nor is his plan. The newly introduced Bond car is great but barely used. The two best Bond girls here have the smallest roles. Odd Job is wasted as a henchman.
Overall disappointing.
Still give it a decent score because Connery is so damn charismatic even in a humdrum story with a lousy antagonist. Crazy that Goldfinger was given one of the best lines in all of Bond’s movies.

This is one of my least favorite Bond movies from the Connery years. Felt much the same as you did about this one.

Was hoping to discover why this film is heralded as such on this viewing. More or less confirmed what I’ve always felt about it. Still a good watch but lacking. But this really made me excited to watch the rest in order. That set is very nice. Can’t believe it took me this long to crack it open.

I should really buy that. It’d be fun to revisit so many of these, especially in order. A lot of the ‘70s and ‘80s ones I haven’t watched in quite a while.
