A woman seemingly dies of fright after participating in a séance where she sees a vision of a Dunwich priest hanging himself in a church cemetery. New York City reporter Peter Bell investigates and learns that the priest’s suicide has somehow opened a portal to Hell and must be sealed by All Saints Day, or else the dead will overtake humanity.

For a long time I would’ve considered this my favorite Fulci movie mostly due to my history with it and nostalgia. But having seen it a couple times on the big screen in recent years along with his The Beyond I now lean more towards The Beyond being my favorite Fulci horror movie. If I saw his Zombie again I’d probably favor that one over those two.
My favorite thing in this movie is the score. Fabio Frizzi really nails the mood in this. I’d love to own this score.
It was very cool to see this Gates of Hell 35mm print again. Grainy and scratchy but perfect for this event.
