despite having seen this I wanted to go to NEIU to support this screening bc they don’t often show exploitation / psychotronic flicks (they even acknowledged this during the intro). Also it’s not often one can view a Doris Wishman flick on the big screen… like, no one is programming her work. This print is owned by AGFA and is the only known 35mm to exist. And it looks great. Apparently they recently did a restoration using this print. So all good reasons to go and see this super goofy movie on the big screen.
It’s probably more enjoyable viewing with others in a large setting like that (there was actually a good turnout for a Wednesday night before a holiday; even Martin McKee came and he rarely ever goes to CHS screenings).
The movie is so dry and the actors so wooden you can help but laugh at the awkwardness. That these two “scientists” are able to create and launch a rocket into space on the down low for under $3Million is a feat unto itself. They arrive on the moon and *SURPRISE* it has the same terrain and environment as Florida! They filmed the nudist colony on the moon at a nearby park in Homestead, FL. Wonder if it’s still there? I’d totally visit.
Such a weird flick but certainly one to be enjoyed in the company of others (McBeardo was another face in the crowd along with Mitch O’Connell. My friend Jason was there).
