Surprised I haven’t seen this esp. when I was consuming a lot of Suzuki’s work several years ago. This is another great allegory for the fate that you make and not being able to escape that life no matter how hard you try.

Lots of great drama once Tetsu and his brother find new lives in the mining town but of course their past catches up to them. The finale is a pure Suzuki masterwork of cinema. The sequence thru the panels taking out these men in long takes with the wonderful colors. ::chef’s kiss::

Would love to see a remasters / restored transfer of this film.
