Viewing Notes

The ideal late afternoon viewing, a solid matinee kind of movie! Had this one on my calendar b/c it’s a movie that DKUTV hasn’t shown to my knowledge. Glad to have seen it because it’s an entertaining alien invasion flick that falls right into the pack of all those alien / space travel flicks being produced at the time in Hollywood. This one, however, also features a superhero Iron Sharp, portrayed by babyfaced Sonny Chiba, who is also one of the doctors investigating the usual occurrences happening.

There’s a group of children that witness the alien ship landing and see the invaders from Neptune but no one believes them. So the government blames the USA and Russia. It’s not until the aliens attack that the officials and reporters believe the kids, which is a pretty great to see the boys lay into the reporters. What I love is that this story would play out the same way regardless of time period. No one will believe the kids and the government would totally blame something else and it would be too late.

So this movie has a shitdick rating at both IMDb and TMDb. My guess is because it was only available in its bastardized English dubbed cut distributed by Walter Manley and mocked on Mystery Science Theater. And because of this, it must be in fact a terrible movie. Fuck that noise. I’m no disciple of MST3K but I understand the appeal however it’s that audience that does stupid shit like this. I’m 100 percent positive that everyone that gave this film a 2 out of 10 rating has not seen the original Japanese version of this film and that sucks.
