A girl is visited by two men from a space ship. They give her water she needs for her daicon (radish). On her journey to deliver the water, she crosses paths with iconic characters from comic books, live-action films, literature and animation.

Japan Cuts tweeted a 2 minute clip from this and I watched it a few times. Tracked down the entire thing and amazed by how much otaku pop culture is crammed into this. Hideki Anno (SHIN GODZILLA, Evangelion, etc) worked on the animation for this which led to the formation of GAINEX. It’s quite incredible and something that should be shown at movie marathons like B-Fest in between films.
Curious if this use of ELO’s “Twilight” was the reason why it was used as the theme song for the Densha Otoko tv series. Gotta think it was bc of how it was used for that w/all the characters and whatnot. Not sure if it was used in the movie which I’d like to revisit. Was reminded that Ron came in for that and we picked up one of my JP language classmates to attend the screening at FACETS and that my girlfriend Yumi also was at that screening. Made me wonder if Ron at met her at that time.

I’ve thought about it some more and I believe she wasn’t at our screening but perhaps the next showing bc she went with her girlfriends rather than with our class. I recall discussing it with her sometime afterwards.
I think if you did meet her I’d have a better memory of it bc she was always so shy in those situations. I tricked her into meeting my dad (didn’t tell her he was joining us for lunch at Mitsuwa) and boy was she angry at me! ;)
