Viewing Notes

Picked up the Blu at Big Lots in RC for $3 and saw that I only had logged my first viewing of it when it was released so I decided to give it a spin (I have watched it more than once but that was before I started logging views). Given that it’s been 12+ years since whenever I last viewed it, it was a good revisit.

Totally forgot Karyn Kusama directed this! Can understand why this was poorly received; perhaps it was trying to be too much like the cartoon series rather than its own thing. I appreciate that but it’s also very messy trying to cram all these heady concepts into a 90min flick, which also smells of studio tampering. Instead of giving the story space to introduce these ideas it has these clunky exposition drops. What I like, and why I give this a favorable rating, is that everyone here is giving their all to make a cool sci-fi flick. Nice visuals and framing along w/the interesting premise. How the action is filmed is not great and some of the editing is bad but the movie is entertaining and gives a lot of screentime to Charlize, as it should.
