Viewing Notes

Opening movie of the 2025 fall semester season, supplied by Sundance in what they said will be a regular thing to kick off each semester.

Very packed audience with an equal mix of patron of the arts types and students.

Upside: free movie (only had to pay for parking) and a movie that isn’t easy to see in theater; closer to Boulder than Centerra or Sloans Lake.

Downside: packed crowd of newbies (more chatter than usual incl. right behind me); tight fit with most of the seating filled (student cougher / breather next to me). Bad angle at the screen bc I had to seat near the front to the side.

Probably evens out. Bonus: producer and writer for Q&A, which was enlightening and interesting to hear.

One of the takeaways is that they still had to pay the Kurosawa Production Co. for the rights bc rather than doing an adaptation of the book, they were in a deal for a remake of the High and Low film. So just to renew the rights to produce the remake they had to front $150K. Also, this remake has been in development hell since 1989. crazy
