Viewing Notes

Caught up to this after missing it during its brief theater run here. Lee’s uneven reimagining of Kurusawa’s classic HIGH TO LOW mostly works but falters a bit in the final act. It owes a lot to a solid performance by Denzel Washington and editing by Barry Brown and Allyson Johnson. Like many of Lee’s films, this shines a light on NYC and Brooklyn, particularly the Yankees and the Puerto Rican community.

The brief scene of the kidnapped kid in the tub with A$ap Rocky’s music playing gave the Secret Cinema’s dual subs a pretty good workout!

I am disappointed I missed this in the theater - I think it played at Sloan’s Lake but not Westminster.  I am looking forward to catching this on AppleTV.  Other reviews I have heard agree that the final act falls flat.  Still looking forward to watching this in our loft theater.  :)
