An actor named Kosuke plays the role of Iemon in a stage version of Yotsuya Kaiden and his new lover Miyuki plays Oiwa. However, as they delve deeper into their respective performances, the line between fantasy and reality becomes obscured until the murderous, vengeful themes of the play bleed into their own relationship.

Held out on revisiting this for a potential movie night. Decided it wouldn’t be ideal for that and I am correct. Super slow burn that is way more mood movie, quietly unfolding in this Ghost of Yotsuya reimagining.
I like it and how it intertwines the play with reality. But I get why this isn’t a more popular Miike film; it’s deliberately paced without a drop of humor.

I thought about programming this for my horror movie marathon but decided against it based on the description. Looks like I made the right choice. Still in my to-watch pile for October though.
