While investigating noises in his house one balmy Texas night in 1989, Richard Dane puts a bullet in the brain of a low-life burglar. Viewing Notes

The narrative is a bit messy but the movie is well shot and the soundtrack and attention to detail really bring out the late ‘80s setting. It goes to a pretty dark place and the violence is messy and visceral. I wish Sam Shepard’s character were a little more fleshed out as it felt like he was underutilized.

Still, great movie, and great performance by Michael C. Hall. It was also great to see Nick Damici in this, who also co-wrote the screenplay. That makes two Damici movies I’ve seen recently (the first being Late Phases).

I really want to see this but it’s only screening at Landmark at the moment. Not very convenient. Saw the trailer last time I was there and it looks great. Hearing all the positive WOM makes it more disappointing it’s not getting a bigger release.

I’m surprised it’s not playing at Denver Film Society here, but happy that I got to see it in a theater. Would be a fine movie to save for a rental if you can’t catch it in the theater.
