Viewing Notes

Lots to like about this but didn’t fully engage me. The sound was amazing in the Atmos theater but apparently I should see it in IMAX?

If you’re lukewarm on it after that atmos experience the IMAX probably won’t make a difference. The scope opens to IMAX once they land on the moon. Maybe the only reason to see it in IMAX is not being able to recreate it? Which is an unknown unless they make it available on the Blu/4K UHD a la Dark Knight.

Then again if you didn’t connect with the film why bother? I’ve seen similar reactions to mine and several that consider it trash. I was engaged but emotionally cold until the finale (IMAX) and wondered if that was the difference maker. I want to see it again in true IMAX.

Also this is exhausting: “Want to know how divided America is? On the same day Richard Brody accuses FIRST MAN of being “a right wing fetish object,” Armond White pans it for being too LEFT wing! Truly a lose-lose situation for poor Damien Chazelle.‘“

On the other hand I thought Claire Foy was amazing in this. Everyone else I was with liked the movie more than me, and we had a nice conversation about it afterwards over dinner. Given that I’m still thinking about it probably says I should revisit it.

Heh I noted Claire Foy in my notes. Thought she had the most convincing performance. Envy you that you could talk about it afterwards. I probably won’t see it again in IMAX in hopes that the scope will be included on the Blu.
