Great watching the newer Stiftung restoration to its original uncut version that premiered back in 1927! The new recording of the original score sounded great in Dolby 5.1 as well. This is the version with portions included from a 16mm print discovered in Buenos Aires back in 2010.

Would you recommend viewing this version over the previously available (shorter) version if I haven’t seen the film?

I think either is fine but the restored longer version is definitely better in terms of the story. There’s also a whole “action” sequence that has some great practical FX and camerawork for 1927. And the score is worth it all on its own.
I may revisit the older version since I have the DVD just for comparison.
