The well-worn story of the evil British colonizers in league with Chinese criminals, but still a fun watch for the martial arts. This is a tangential sequel to IP MAN 3, featuring Jin Zhang (aka Max Zhang) reprising his role as former grandmaster Cheung Tin-chi. Great to see Michelle Yeoh!
I LOVE the set design on this too. Almost everything takes place on sound stages and it’s very reminiscent of classic backlot Hollywood films. It really reminded me of WEST SIDE STORY honestly. I loved Bar Street with all it’s great neon signage.
This feels set up for a sequel before it’s even done so I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s another already in the works. Hopefully it features more Tony Jaa. I love seeing him as a guest star but what the hell do we need to do to see him in his own feature films solo again?

Haha did you read my notes? We said nearly the exact same thing regarding the street / sound stage! Glad you dug it. I’ve seen plenty of negative views towards this (which I totally get) but this really reminds of older HK cinema in the production and characters. Def one I will own someday.
Also echo your Tony Jaa comments. He seems to be floating around picking up any gig he can.

I did after! Not the first time that’s happened!
