Viewing Notes

The full Japanese version on DKU-TV instead of the massively shortened Roger Corman version. Needed more of the gorgeous Ayumi Ishida in it but otherwise a really well done disaster movie that also grapples with the humanitarian and political crisis such a massive disaster would cause. Apparently remade in 2006 and 2020.

Have you seen the Corman version? I haven’t but would like to view it to compare how they changed it. Is Lorne Greene in that version bc I didn’t see him in the JP cut.

btw, Minoru Kawasaki directed the inverse remake in 2006. Despite also featuring Hiroshi Fujioka it’s rather awful:

The 2020 remake I believe is the new Japanese anime series currently on Netflix. I haven’t seen any of it but saw it come across my TL a few times.

I haven’t but apparently it cuts a lot of the politics and focuses on all the disaster stuff. And yeah, Lorne Green is cut into that version.

I seem to recall hearing good things about the anime series so maybe I’ll check it out at some point!
