Viewing Notes

Michael Shannon! Needed something to kill time (that didn’t involve food or beer) before picking up Yumi from work. Was glad this was screening at the Cinemark CineArts at Santana Row. Only 3 of us in the theater, which was pretty damn nice. Super comfortable and spacious seats.

The movie was even better than expected mostly due to Shannon’s performance. Some decent supporting actors incl. an odd appearance by Franco. But it’s Shannon all the way here. Liotta is pretty much doing the same character he’s been doing for the last decade or so. What I really love about this movie is the time period and how well they worked toward making it look the period, from the cars to the clothes.

Maybe the second best thing is that I’m now intrigued by the real life Richard Kuklinski and his story. Nothing here feels particularly exaggerated considering the events. But I would like to read more about him and the history around the events portrayed in the film. Then I’ll watch the movie again.

It took me quite a while to realize that was Chris Evans in that role. Lots of good supporting actors in this.

Evans and Shannon are my favorite things here. Ryder is good too. I’ll add some comments when I have more time.
