Viewing Notes

Embarking on my Godzilla project that I decided upon last year. Wanted to wait until 2014 to kick off since it is the 60th anniversary and the new movie will be released. Plus a good excuse to crack open my Criterion Blu.

Saw this most recently at G-Fest on the big screen where it left a huge impact on me. Viewing it again tonight I focused on other things like the drama and relationships. Such a unique film in that Godzilla doesn’t get much screen time yet the fear and intensity is all driven through the human drama and reaction to his presence.

I like Akihiko Hirata the most in this cast. I’d love to know more about his character Dr. Serizawa. I also really love that moment when Godzilla is woken up from his nap on the ocean floor.

Next week: Godzilla, King of the Monsters!
